I came across this beautiful handmade paper at my Granny's house and thought I could make it into a nice protective wrap for the book. The only thing I didn't like about it was The Hansei Journal wasn't identified, so that's when I cut out a fan shape window so that the name was displayed. I also added small pieces of wood the the wrap to give it a bit of depth and it adds to the design.
To seal the wrap, I used elasticated string which I sewed together then dyed using coffee granules and hot water. It came up a lovely shade of brown which matched with the wood used for the book's binding. I like how I used coffee to create colour as this is a natural resource. The strap also doubles up as a pen holder too, as shown in the images above.
I got the book back from the printers at the start of the week and bound it together. This is the finished product:
I took time to capture the hero images necessary for the final hand in, I knew exactly what I wanted to shoot. x1 image of the book in context, x1image of the product and x1 image that included the wrap and to project that the book can be easily transported and will be protected in transit.
I used chose this style of packaging, then filled it with shredded paper for protection. I then added a sticker design to the box to seal it. Here is the finished look:
Then the rest of the week was just filled with tying up loose ends in time for the final hand in on the 17th May. Thank you for reading my blogs, I hope you enjoyed seeing The Hansei Journal's life from just a thought to now a tangible product. Take care.
