I am continuing to work on the project booklet, currently sitting at 70 pages which I am extremely happy about considering I started the week at 16. The graphics for The Hansei Journal are coming along nicely but that is a time-consuming job as I need it to be perfect before printing.
I took time to work out how to present the Hansei journal in video format for the final hand in, this is the idea that I thought of today:
Collects journal through post
Opens packaging to find journal
Sit and use the book – film the same spot but the actor appears with a change of outfit maybe 5 times and the weather or lighting outside could change to show a prolonged period of time.
The video will have a voice over, I drafted up what it may say:
The Hansei Journal is a booklet with the aim to improve a person’s mental mind set and encourage them to gain the most out of life. The journal comes contained in a protective case that the user can use when travelling. This book can be used over a 26-week period, over this time the user will have opportunity to effectively plan their time, journal their thoughts engage in mindfulness exercises and learn 26 new cognitive behavioural therapy techniques. Helping to come to terms with one’s feelings and gain a better quality of life.
Packaging
I started prototyping the packaging, I decided to do a pizza box style. I felt this was the sleekest design and user friendly for the customer. I prototyped the making of it and folds, out of cardboard in the house, but it was extremely out of proportion. I also researched existing Japanese product's packaging, below shows my inspiration for my final design.

I thought that it would be a nice feature if the packaging had a dual purpose, so I looked into how it could be used as a book holder since the book itself is quite delicate. I worked on a design to make it aesthetically pleasing and was happy with the outcome of the cut-out fan shapes. I do not think I will include the journal’s name on the holder.
I then created a version that could be the final thing after working out the ideal sizes and folds. I now have a ‘dog ate my homework story’ as I left the packaging out one night to allow the paint to dry, and the pictures speak for itself….
I will create a new one next week.
